OVERVIEW

The University of Cincinnati, often referred to as Cincinnati or UC, is a public research university in the United States. With an annual enrollment of more than 40,000 students, it is the second largest university in Ohio, and one of the largest universities in the States. It is a member of the University System of Ohio, and the largest single employer in Greater Cincinnati.

The university was founded in 1819 as Cincinnati College, and is the oldest higher education institution in Cincinnati. The main campus, the West campus lies in the Uptown one, which includes the West, Medical and Victory Parkway campuses. On the 137-acre campus, you can find most of the undergraduate colleges. In addition, there are some branch campuses such as Clermont College, UC East, and Blue Ash College.

The university offers degrees in certificate, associate, bachelor’s, post-bachelor’s certificate, master’s, doctorate’s programs. It is the originator of the co-operative education model, which includes alternating quarters of coursework on campus, and outside work at a host firm as well.

ACCREDITATION

The University of Cincinnati is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Besides, a number of organizations accredit the programs in UC, such as National Association of Schools of Art and Design, Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, American Dental Association, etc.

Aiming to be the premier urban research university, UC offers 304 programs, including 49 Associate, 103 Bachelor’s, 85 Master’s, 67 Doctoral and 4 First Professional degrees. Besides, it also offers some other professional practice program, including cooperative education program, academic internship program, and the center for cooperative education research and innovation.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The application deadline is Feb 1. Either SAT or ACT score is required to be submitted together with the high school transcripts, recommendations, essays, completed application, and the application fee of $50.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuition and fees for the 2011-2012 academic year is USD 10,065 for in-state students, and USD 24,588 for out-of-state tuition and fees. Besides, the room and board cost about USD 9,702 on average.

Need-based financial aids are provided at the University of Cincinnati. About 58.7 percent of full-time undergraduate students receive certain kind of scholarships or grants, and the average grant award is USD 5,649 on average every academic year.
