OVERVIEW

Nova Southeastern University, often referred to as Nova or NSU, is a private university in the United States. With about 28,796 students, it is the largest independent higher education institution in the southeastern United States, and the seventh largest not-for-profit independent institution of higher education in the States.

NSU was founded in 1964 as the Nova University of Advanced Technology, which offered graduate degrees in the physical and social sciences. Its 300-acre main campus is located in the town of Davie, housing administrative offices, classroom facilities, library facilities, health clinics, mental health clinics, computer labs, dorms, and other facilities, and the university has another two campuses in Southern Florida as well.

Nova Southeastern University offers degrees in certificate, associate, bachelor’s, post-bachelor’s certificate, and doctorate’s programs. In addition, Nova offers various combined-degree programs, such as Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Speech-Language Pathology, and so on.

ACCREDITATION

The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the accreditation started in 1971, when the university was called Nova University.

ACADEMICS

Nova Southeastern University comprises 19 colleges, schools, or centers, from College of Nursing, and Criminal Justice Institute, to Oceanographic Center, and Shepard Broad Law Center.

NSU hosts a university school, which is called the University School of Nova Southeastern University. The university school is located on the Davie campus, offering grades Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12, and is divided in lower, middle and upper schools.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

NSU is a selective university, with an acceptance rate of 53.3 percent. Applicants need to notice that the application deadline is rolling, and the application fee is $50. Either ACT or SAT score is required for the application, with the high school transcripts, recommendation letters, as well.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuition and fees for the 2011-2012 academic year is USD 23,214, and the room and board may cost USD 9,516 on average.

At NSU, a variety of financial aids or scholarships are offered, including NSU Trustee Florida Academic Scholarship, Chancellor’s Scholarship, Nova Southeastern University Honor Award, and Eazor’s Edge. About 75.8 percent of the full-time students receive need-based financial aids, and the average need-based grant award or scholarship is USD 12,028.
