OVERVIEW

Howard University is one of the private institutions in the country. It is also known as an authorized research university. The university enrolls both undergraduate students and post graduates. So far, it has a total undergraduate enrollment of 7,147, not include the post graduates.

Howard University was established in the year of 1867. The campus is located in an urban area in northeast Washington. The school has undergone many changes after World War I and a couple of new buildings were built after the war.

The university offers a wide range of diplomas in different study programs, including Bachelor’s, Master’s, Post-master’s certificate and Doctorate degree. The majority of its students are enrolled as undergraduates pursuing a Bachelor’s degree.

ACCREDITATION

Many of the Howard schools and colleges are accredited by different scientific research centers. For example, the School of Business is accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. At the same time, the university itself is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

According to the records made by U.S News Rankings, Howard University is ranked 115th among domestic national universities.

This university is known as one of the two historically black colleges defined as Research College. The university not only offers cooperative education programs, but also offers pre-professional programs.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the university are required to possess high school diplomas. General Educational Development (GED) is equally effective. It also requires applicants to take standardized tests like SAT or ACT. At the same time, it is also recommended that applicants attend the general college-preparatory program. Among all non-academic factors, applicant’s personal qualities are considered to be very important.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuitions and fees for year 2011-2012 is USD 19,741. Students spend USD 1,216 for life expanses on average and USD 15,341 for accommodation.

The university provides students with a variety of scholarships, including freshmen scholarships, Trustee Scholarships, ROTC Scholarships, Frederick Douglass Scholars Program and Mordecai Wyatt Johnson Scholars Program. Qualified applicants can apply for all the scholarships.
