OVERVIEW

Brandeis University is a private research university of the United States that focuses on liberal arts. As one of the youngest private research universities, Brandeis University Has approximately 3,200 undergraduates, 2,100 graduate students and over 450 academic staffs living in the 235-acre campus. The university is most selective, with the acceptance rate being 35.4%.

First established in 1948 as a nonsectarian Jewish-sponsored coeducational institution, Brandeis University is now located in the southwestern corner of Waltham, Massachusetts, nine miles west of Boston. The university offers various kinds of student services that almost cover all aspects of their campus life, and they include non-remedial tutoring, women’s center, placement service, health service and more.

Brandeis University offers degrees in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate’s programs as well as combined-degree programs, like the Columbia University School of Engineer Combined Degree Program. The average freshman retention rate is 97%, and averagely as many as 86% of the students in Bradeis University finished their four years’ study and managed to graduate with a degree, which is obviously a good number.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the university are required to provide either their SAT or ACT scores before January 15 and admission interview is recommended. The early decision will be due on November 15 and the application fee is USD 55. The Working and volunteering experiences usually give applicants extra advantages.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuitions and fees for year 2011-2012 is USD 41,860. The room and board fee is USD 11,894. Students averagely spend USD 1,000 on books and supplies.

Brandeis University offers both scholarships (including both need-based ones and non-need-based ones) and financial aids. There are five types of need-based scholarships/grants, with USD 30,543 awarded for freshman and USD 11,853 non-need-based scholarships/grants offered. Brandeis University provides six types of loans for students. About 59% of the students get financial aid and 28% of them have their needs fully met. Financial aids are also available for international students in this university.
