OVERVIEW

Stevens Institute of Technology is a private technical university in the United States. It is known as a higher education offering high-level curricula in engineering, science and technical management. It has a faculty team of 179 full-time and 149 part-time staff, and has about 5,260 students at present.

Stevens Institute of Technology was founded in 1870 and named after a family od accomplished invertors and engineers. Its 55-acre campus is located in Hoboken, New Jersey, which houses a range of academic and residential buildings, and has fairly easy access to New York City.

Stevens offers degrees in bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate’s, postbachelor’s programs, and first professional certificates as well. As the same time, it has cooperation with other higher education institutions such as the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New York Law School, New York University, etc. to offers some other programs.

Stevens Institute of Technology creates new knowledge and educates and inspires students to acquire the competencies needed to lead in scientific discovery and in the creation, application and management of technology to solve complex problems and to build new enterprises. Stevens believes that solutions to many of the critical problems that face humanity can be found in improved use and understanding of technology, and that it is the duty of the Institute to produce engineers, scientists and business leaders prepared for this challenge. This vision is embodied in a concept referred to as “Technogenesis®,” the process of education that begins with the inception of an idea and proceeds through the engineering and marketing phases of the development of a product or service which germinates from the idea. Inherent in this concept is the requirement that the educational structure and research effort be multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary. It provides researchers with the opportunity to collaborate in research efforts that cut across disciplinary boundaries and also provides the working professional with the broad educational experience that is essential in career enhancement. Stevens demonstrates its commitment through the development of several startup companies, increased patent activity, and the incorporation of Technogenesis philosophies, concepts and techniques in the classroom. ACCREDITATION

Stevens is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and some of its programs have been accredited by other accrediting organizations including Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, American Chemical Society, National Security Agency, and Project Management Institute.

Stevens Institute of Technology comprises 4 academic schools:

Stevens houses three national research centers, the National Center for Secure and Resilient Maritime Commerce, the Systems Engineering Research University Affiliated Research Center, and the Atlantic Center for the Innovative Design & Control of Small Ships.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

It is a selective school, with only 51 percent applicants admitted every academic year. For applicants, high school diploma it required, and GED is not accepted. Factors including application essay, academic GPA, secondary school record, recommendations, standardized test scores, etc. are all taken into account in the admission.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuition and fees is USD 36,000 every academic year, and the room and board may cost about USD 1,380, and the average book expense is USD 700.

About 90 percent students get certain type of financial aids at Stevens. The aids vary in types, including need-based scholarships or grants, loans, student employment, etc. The average cumulative indebtedness is USD 35,319.
