OVERVIEW

Adelphi University is a private university in the United States. With a history of over 110 years, it is the oldest higher education institution on Long Island. The university has an enrollment of about 8,603 students now. It was awarded the 2010 Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and was named as one of the 2010 Best College in the Northeastern Region by the Princeton Review.

Adelphi University was founded in 1896 as a liberal arts college for the City of Brooklyn. It became a women’s college in 1912, and became co-educational in1946 after World War II. The campus is located in Garden City, New York, housing a range of buildings, including the main halls, residence halls, and so on.

The college offers degrees in associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs. Besides, some combined-degree programs, like scholars teacher education program (STEP). The average freshman retention rate is 80 percent, and the 4-year graduation rate is 58 percent.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to supply completed application either online or in paper format, a application fee of $40, a personal statement or essay, official high school transcripts, official copies of SAT or ACT scores, and recommendation letters from a teacher, school-based administrator, or a guidance or college counselor.

COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID

The tuitions and fees for the 2011-2012 academic year is USD 28,460, with the room and board cost USD 11,420.

About 67 percent full-time students get financial aids at Adelphi, and a variety of need-based financial aids or grants are offered. The average need-based scholarship or need-based financial aids is USD 6,722 every academic year.
